The Great Banquet and Auction was fast approaching as I headed out on my search for the Enlightened Warrior at the Westin Bayshore Hotel. I missed him by hours. When he stood, was a barren corner. I must confess that I was disappointed and just a little bit frustrated by my timing. But I did not give up the chase. After all, this blog is all about “chasingART.” I waited for the morning of the Great Banquet. I was not disappointed for the Enlightened Warrior stood guard above the rest.

I was just having a look at your new posts! Loved it. we had a warrior collection temporally on the Chicago Field Museum but I missed it so I guess this makes up a little bit. Very nice pictures, I could see all the details.

Over the past couple of years I have wanted to do some more research into China and when I saw the Terracotta Warriors on the streets around Vancouver, I thought it would be rather fun to “chase” them down and dig a little into the stories behind them. What I found out was that there is so much to explore – my research has just begun. Terracotta Warriors is a fundraising project by the Easter Seals. All of the artists are from Vancouver so it gave a an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful talent that is in my city.
By the way, I am really enjoying following your blog – looking forward to our ongoing dialogue….

These are awesome news! For how long is the exposition going to be on the streets? I have no idea about them so I would really like to read about their history and meaning. I feel very curious about it. It also looks like a lot of work doesn’t it? But so much more can be found.

They were on display from around May 2012 – September 2012. I thought it would be easy to find them, but it really took a great deal of time to track them down. By the end, I felt they all belonged to me and that I was somehow connected to the original Terracotta Warriors. China’s legends, history, culture, music, food and colours are vibrant. 2012 was the Year of the Water Dragon, which has potent meaning and gave special relevance to the project. Thank you so much for your interest. I am beginning to understand the meaning of Leonardo da Vinci’s words, “The painter has the Universe in his mind and hands.”

haha, but these warriors are pretty kitschy, I like the original ones in China. May I ask what are the materials of these colored warriors?

You would love these, especially since they were created to raise funds for children with disabilities. These warriors were made out of fiberglass. I was reading up on the original warriors and found out that they were quite colorful, too! So glad that you stopped by! I look forward to your visits!!!

They have had many of these fund-raising events – Spirit Bears, Orcas, & Eagles. I missed these but not the Terracotta Warriors. I’m looking forward to the next project – stay turned….

Thank you!! I do too! They were created for a very worthy cause – children with disabilities. This project also gave me a chance to learn about China. (I confess I know very little about this subject). There are still one or two that remain in place, but most have gone into “into hiding.” I miss them…
