Happy Birthday, Thomas Sully
Thomas Sully (June 19, 1783 – November 5, 1872) was an American (English-born) painter, mostly of portraits. He became a professional painter at age 18 in 1801. Five years later, he moved to the United States. His portraits include Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, and the Marquis de Lafayette. His portrait of Andrew Jackson in 1824 was used for the United States twenty-dollar bill from 1928 onward. He went back to London in 1837 to paint Queen Victoria.
