Happy Mother’s Day!
What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than with Giovanni Giacometti.
This painting entitled Annetta and Alberto, completed in 1904, was of Giovanni’s wife, Annetta with their son, Alberto, who would become one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century.
Giovanni and Annetta would go on to have other sons who pursued artistic careers: Diego Giacometti, artist and Bruno Giacometti, architect.
I can only imagine the extraordinary conversations that occurred around the Giacometti dinner table.
“But there’s a story behind everything. How a picture got on a wall. How a scar got on your face. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all your stories is always your mother’s story, because hers is where yours begin.”
