About ChasingART

I have worked in a world of numbers for the past 30+ years. Numbers are exciting, complex, relatively concrete and, my personal favourite, dependable. There is beauty in a mathematical equation especially since is seems easy to define and categorize answers into right and wrong. Some would argue, however, that numbers create an illusion of stability and certainty. This segues nicely into the mysterious and nebulous disciplines of artistic endeavours.

I admire my “artistic” friends who seem to fully appreciate and recognize the nuances of a sculpture or painting. I admit to feeling a certain wistfulness at not being able to see what they see, or to experience what they seem to experience. It reminds me of how I identify with a mathematical equation including the feeling of elation when I understand the reasoning behind the numbers.

And then one day in early May 2009, I understood. I was on the fifth floor of the Musée d’Orsay. It was a quiet weekday morning so I had the Impressionist Painters all to myself. It was my tipping point. With all the beauty of colour surrounding me, I had a spontaneous sensation of joy, a connection with the artwork.  It was enough to feel the moment and know that art, music, poetry, dance and storytelling belong to all of us – not just a few. The pursuit of artistic excellence is an essential element of our humanity; it speaks to the soul of our culture and society, allowing us to celebrate our individuality and our togetherness. I decided, there and then, to become more closely acquainted with the artistic world. ChasingArt is an account of my journey of discovery. It is my way of showing gratitude to those who have dedicated their lives to the advancement of creative innovation.
